Cute Crochet Project

I found these cute little crocheted butterflies here. Aren't they adorable? And she made them with embroidery thread... now why didn't I think of that???!! These would be perfect for so many things... add to a hair barrette or headband, decorate a note card, or add to some ribbon to decorate a gift, just to name a few. I'll definitely be trying these; hope you do too.

You're Not Going to Believe This One!

While browsing through blogs today, I came across something that made me laugh.. I could not believe these things even existed. Once I was through chuckling, I decided I had to make some of them. Here they are:

I know, you're wondering what the heck these are, aren't you? Well, they are called "Pee Pee Teepees" and they are to be used when changing the diaper on a baby boy... you probably know where this is going now, don't you??!!!

Yup, the cone fits over his wee wee so that he doesn't pee on you while you change his diaper. I thought I had seen everything, but apparently I was wrong! I made these up for our nephew's girlfriend and her best friend, both of whom just had baby boys. If nothing else, they will get a good laugh out of them!

Hope you are enjoying your Friday... yay, it's almost the weekend!

Busy Girl

I have been very busy crafting the last couple of days. I made some more of those reusable coffee sleeves:

I also made a mouse pad and matching coaster for my sister-in-law Becky to use at work:

Remember I said I wanted to make a knitting needle case for my neighbor? Well, I spent a good part of yesterday working on it and after it was all done I decided I just could not give it away.... the sewing was way too wonky in places.

The pocket was horrible, it ended up slanting up on one side.. ugh.  I could not find a pattern I liked for one on the web, so I tried to use my crochet hook case pattern and re-size it.. obviously it did not work! I couldn't figure out what to do with it until it hit me... why not use it to hold my big serving spoons and cutlery for when we go camping? So I've got the seam ripper out and will re-size some of the openings and re-purpose it.

This morning I finally found a knitting needle case tutorial on the web that I liked and made another one...

I like this one much better.

I'm off to do more crafting... have a great day.

Quick Tuesday Project

Hi all... hope everyone had a good weekend. I did, but it was very tiring, think I did waaaay too much, so I spent most of yesterday in bed. Feeling much better today.

I'm still trying to find uses for all my scrap material, and came across this one today for a reusable coffee cup sleeve. I know several people who could use one of these, and also think they might sell well at a craft fair:

The only change I made was to make my fastener out of elastic rather than a hair elastic band.. when I tried that, it broke the needle on my sewing machine! So I switched to elastic and it worked much better for me. I found several patterns for these, but I liked this one as it used cotton batting between the layers of fabric, which I think will be much better for hot drinks.

Mr. S. will be home from work soon, so better go start dinner. Have a nice evening all!

More Finished Projects

I've been busy working on some more craft projects... making up for lost time  I guess!

Here are three more mouse pads I made last night:

The pink one and the polka dot one are for my sister, and the heart one is for my Mom.

Today I made another tote bag, this one from a tea
towel:

Here is Mr. S. modeling it for you!

We're heading over to my parents' house in a bit to take them out for dinner, then tomorrow we will go see Mr. S.'s family, so we've got a busy weekend ahead. Hope you enjoy the rest of yours.

Finished Lapghan

I have finally finished my Dad's lapghan, just in time to give it to him for Father's Day.

This is the first time that I have ever come so close to running out of yarn... this is how much I had left:

Whew...I just made it! Since I was so close to running out of yarn, I only ended up doing one row of SC and one row of DC for the border... I had intended to do a last row of Reverse Single Crochet but it didn't happen. Oh well, no one will know but me (and now you!)

Here it is:

Now I'm off to make a few more of those mouse pads... once my sister saw mine, she decided she had to have two... one for home and one for work!

Hope everyone has a really great weekend.

Another No-Sew Project

I've been searching for projects that I can use with my Fat Quarters of fabric, and came across this one today. My mouse pad had seen better days, so I decided to make one. It took maybe 10 or 15 minutes to do and was so easy!

Here is what I did:  Using my old mouse pad as a template, I cut out the shape on a piece of cork.  I then used the piece of cork as a template and traced the shape onto the paper backed side of some double-sided fusible web (I used Heat n Bond Lite as that is what I had on hand)

After choosing a fat quarter, I fused the web to the fabric, making sure the right side of the fabric was facing down and the fusible web was paper side up. I then cut the shape from the fused piece of fabric.

After letting it cool for a few minutes, I removed the paper backing and placed the piece of fabric right side up on the cork. I then took it back over to the iron and fused it to the cork. It was kind of a strange feeling ironing something on to cork, but it worked! A few of the edges did not fuse real well, so I just used some of my Tacky Glue on those edges.

After I was done, I decided I was not too fond of the plain rectangular shape, so I grabbed a small plate from the kitchen and traced around the corners. I cut off those pieces, which resulted in this:

Here is the finished project:

A nice, new mouse pad in one of my favorite colors, lime green! I bought a package of cork tiles at Jo-Anns (for around $5), so I can make several more of these. I'm thinking that with the leftover pieces of cork I might make some coasters too.

I did not finish my Dad's lapghan today, but I am working on the border, so it should be finished later tonight.  We are taking him out to dinner on Saturday, so it has to be finished by then. I'll keep ya posted.

A Quick Little Project

I thought I would share with you a quick project I made today. Remember the disaster with my dishwasher from last month? Well, Mr. S. finally fixed all the damage and installed the new dishwasher.... which I am absolutely loving, by the way. Much more efficient (and quieter) than the last one.

Anyway, I decided I needed one of those "Dishes are Clean / Dishes are Dirty" signs because I get really tired of having to tell Mr. S. whether or not the dishes are clean! I searched around the web but didn't find anything I liked, so I decided to make it myself.

I started with a template I found here. I printed off the signs onto plain paper. I did not have any magnet sheets, but I did have some small round magnets from another craft project. So rather than make it one reversible magnet, I ended up having to make two.

I needed something to attach the signs to, and then I remembered that in my fat quarters there is always a piece of cardboard. I took the cardboard out of two fat quarters and they were the perfect size:

I took some craft glue and glued the signs to the cardboard, making cuts as needed:
After that, I simply attached two magnets to the back of each sign with the same glue.
An hour or so later the glue was dry and they were ready to hang. Whichever sign I'm not using is going to hang on the side of my refrigerator, which is within easy reach, and I can easily swap them out as needed.
And there you are, problem solved! Mr. S. will be thrilled that I didn't have to go out and spend any money either... ha ha!

Edited to add:  I went back later and laminated both signs too!

Happy Hump Day

I hope everyone is having a great Wednesday.  I ran some errands today while my Mom came over and cleaned my house for me (she refuses to let me lift a finger to clean until the doctor has given me the all clear!)

I also finished another crochet hook roll... I am really hooked on these (no pun intended.. ha ha!)

I love the bright red colors of this one. I added some ric rac to the top of the inside pocket... did you know that you can iron on ric rac now? I found it on the clearance aisle at Jo-Ann's for 50 cents a yard... not too shabby, huh?

I am almost finished with my Dad's lapghan, then I will start another hook roll case. This one will be for knitting needles, as I am making it for my neighbor across the street who knits. She is an RN, and has been checking in on me since I got home from the hospital, so I wanted to repay her kindness.

Hope you have had a chance to go check out my sister-in-law's blog, Sunny B's Craft Corner.  She has posted pictures of the newest member of our family, her grandson, Kael Gregory. I must say that he really is one of the cutest babies I have seen.. course I could be just a wee bit prejudiced!

Enjoy the rest of your day... hopefully I will have pictures of the finished lapghan to show you tomorrow.

I'm Back... With a New Look!

Hi everyone! So good to be back on the computer. It will take me some time to catch up with everyone, but hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your summer. I decided to change the look of my blog. I am using Blogger's new Design feature, but am not sure if I really like it or not. Guess I will live with it for awhile and see how it goes!

Thanks so much for all your prayers, thoughts and good wishes on my recent surgery.  It's been a little over two weeks now, and I am slowly starting to try to get back in to a routine. I still find that I need a little nap in the afternoon, and I can't over-do it, but my doctor says everything is looking good so I'm happy for that.

I am going to finish up my Dad's lapghan this week, since I want to give it to him this weekend for Father's Day. I am going to try to do a bit of sewing this week too. I sure did miss being able to do all of my crafting. I will definitely post pictures once I get some things done.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
