Here is my completed cowl: I did not make it as long as the pattern called for, but the next one I think I might. That way I can wrap it around my head twice and it will keep my neck and ears warm! I finished the cover for the headrest of Mr. S.'s new recliner. It is just a basic granny square that I kept crocheting until it got to the size I wanted it. The granny square just seems to be my "go-to" pattern for some reason. I think I like it because I don't have to count my stitches... I really hate doing that! I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!!! It's the shampoo I use in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and (duh!) printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning... "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY." No WONDER I have been gaining weight!!! Well! I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start using Dawn dish soap instead.

Now that things are somewhat back to normal, I have been cooking and baking again. My Mom gave me this recipe for an Easy Lemon Cake and it really is easy (and delicious). After a week of evacuation from the fire, we are finally home, safe and sound. All of the grass, trees and bushes were destroyed by fire, and we have some smoke damage on our fence, but other than that, everything is intact. The house smelled of smoke, but I put bowls of white vinegar around and it absorbed the odor. We have found 2 rattlesnakes, one near the garage and the other in the backyard.

After an unexpectedly cold winter, we lost most of our outside plants. Surprisingly, this tulip survived and it bloomed this morning. Isn't it beautiful?? I finally finished the Aligned Shells afghan that I was working on: I love this pattern, because it is one of those "no-brainers" you can do while watching television. All I did for the border was several rounds of single crochet. I made this cute cloche today from this pattern.  It is an interesting pattern, because once you get the pattern established, you turn your work after each row, which I have not done before when working in the round. This recipe is called Turkey Crescents and it is something we have made in our family for many years. My Mom got the recipe years and years ago - I think it was one of those Pillsbury cook-off winning recipes. It is also great with chicken too. I got bored with my other template, so trying this one. I wanted to do a holiday one, but only managed to get it on my other blog, not this one. If this one doesn't grow on me, maybe I'll try again. I really hate Blogger's new templates!

must run in my family. I had planned to make these cute turkey shirts with my great nephews over Thanksgiving. However, since I've been sick, I never got the chance.  :(  So my two sisters made them up for me, and look how cute they turned out: They are for these 2 adorable boys: I think they did a great job! It's a very non-traditional Thanksgiving for me this year. We usually spend it with my family, but since I'm sick, we can't go over there this year (my Father can't risk getting an infection). I hate being sick... especially around the holidays. But here I am, with stuffy nose, sore throat... the works. Doc says it is a viral infection that will have to run its course. All I have done the last 2 days is sleep pretty much non-stop. I'm hoping that by tomorrow I will start to feel human again.

Hawaii was absolutely awesome! We had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back again. I'll post photos throughout this week so that you can see just some of the beautiful things we saw. Today it's back to the real world .... laundry, bill paying and grocery shopping. Here's a photo I took of myself on the beach: Ahhh to be back on the beach again!

That's right... Mr. S. and I are taking a much-needed vacation. We will be spending a week here: HAWAII here we come! Mr. S. plans on bringing his laptop, so I'll try to post pictures if I can.
