Happy Monday

Hope you had a nice weekend. I have been busy doing this and that, but mainly sewing and crafting, although I did get some crocheting in too. I am almost finished with the baby projects I told you about awhile back. The blanket and hat are done and I just need to put the sweater together and sew the buttons on.

As I look at this picture I realize that I didn't lay this out very well - the blanket is not wonky.

This weekend I started sewing baby stuff:  burp pads, bibs, etc. I made the cutest little onesie I just had to show it to you:

Isn't that adorable?? I bought the onesie at Wal-mart and appliqued the tie onto it. I need to get everything finished so I can box it up and send it off to our niece in Tennessee; the baby is a month old already!

A Blog Award for Me???

Yes, indeed, I received a blog award from the very sweet Melinda at Mo Crochet.

Thank you so very much Melinda!

The rules are that I have to reveal some fun facts about myself and then share the award with others. Here are some facts about me:

  1. I have 5 cats, 2 cockatiels and a saltwater fish tank. Someday we want to add a dog (or two) to this crazy mix.
  2. I snorkeled in Hawaii this past November and saw a sea turtle up close.
  3. I have a cat that can fetch - yes, that's right, a cat! If you throw one of her toys, she will retrieve it and bring it back to you.
  4. I hate sewing anything by hand; I would much rather use my sewing machine. I even hate sewing on buttons!
I would like to pass this award on to the following blogs:

Debbie Jeans
Notes of Sincerity
Simple, Vintage and Crochet

Rules for the winners are:  pick 3-5 blogs you admire and pass on this award, linking back to the person who gave it to you (that would be me). Reveal several fun facts about yourself. Be sure to leave a comment on their blog letting them know that they have won an award.

Congratulations and thanks again Melinda.

Have I Got a Deal For You

I promised you a post about discounts at and here it is! If you've never ordered from them, you are definitely missing out. They sell everything, and always at low prices. The best part about them is that their shipping is always $2.95, regardless of the size of your order. You definitely can't find that anywhere else.

I have ordered from them in the past and have always been very happy with my purchases. When we were re-doing our master bathroom a few years ago, I could not find an oil-rubbed bronze faucet that I liked anywhere in town, so I eventually ordered one from Overstock. It got here quickly and was exactly what I wanted (and still works great!)

Just for reading this post, you can save an extra 10% on items in the following departments:

Bedding & Bath

kitchen appliances

vacuum cleaners

fashion jewelry

Just click on the link above and it will take you directly to that department. To receive your 10% discount, use the Discount Code 121745 at checkout. This discount code never expires, however, it can only be used once per e-mail address. The discount code does not apply to movies, books or electronics; however, if you are interested in purchasing something from electronics, use this promo code - 202234 - to receive free shipping.

I sure hope you take advantage of this .... I need some extra-deep sheets for our new foam mattress, so I'm going to go check those out!

NOTE: All the ideas and opinions expressed are my own. No monetary compensation was received for doing this post, however, I was provided with a discount code.

Update and Stuff

I'm happy to say that my Dad is out of the hospital and resting comfortably at home. He did not need surgery (thank goodness); the doctors decided it was just a bad flare-up of his arthritis.

Thanks so much for your prayers and well wishes - I am so grateful for all my bloggy friends, you're the best!

Be watching my blog this week, as I will be featuring a post about I'm excited about it, as this is the first time I've ever been contacted by a company asking if I'd be interested in posting about their products. It will feature savings for you, so don't miss it!

Have a nice weekend all.

Prayer Request

What a crazy few days it has been here in my neck of the woods. I was cleaning house Friday morning when I got a phone call from my mother that they were taking my father by ambulance to the hospital. He could not get out of bed and his heart rate was alarmingly high.

I dropped everything, jumped in the shower and then raced to the hospital. It turns out that his high heart rate was due to a fever caused by an infection that has settled in his right knee. My father has very bad arthritis and it greatly affects his knees. For now he is in the hospital on intravenous antibiotics until they can figure out what is going on with his knee and see if they need to operate.

While we were at the hospital yesterday morning, we heard an "urgent external 911" page over the hospital paging system. They were bringing some of the victims of the shooting here in Tucson to the hospital where my father is at. This is such a horrible tragedy, not only for my city but for our whole country. As you can imagine, this is all that is on our local TV channels. I vacillate between anger and sadness as I watch, wondering how such a senseless act can happen.

Please say a prayer today as you read this .... for my father, for my city, for our country.

A New Year

Hard to believe it is 2011; wow, where did 2010 go? Seems like the older I get, the faster time flies!

I took a little blogging break over the holidays, but I'm back. Believe it or not, I have actually been crocheting more than sewing. I finished a project I have been working on for awhile; it is a lapghan for Mr. S. to use at work. I hate the yarn, but he wouldn't agree to anything else, so camouflage it is:

Miss Ellie decided she needed to be in the picture too!

I have also started on the baby stuff I showed you awhile back. I got the hat done, and have 2 squares of the baby blanket completed with only 2 more to go. Then I will start on the sweater.

I'm trying to get my house cleaned and organized, but am just not feeling very motivated. Sure wish I could just snap my fingers and it would all be done for me.

If you want to see some gorgeous crochet work, you need to go check out the afghan my sister-in-law Becky made. She did the CAL that Bernat had a few months ago and she finished it the other day. It is absolutely gorgeous. Go here to check it out.  The picture doesn't really do it justice; in person it is absolutely stunning.

That's it for now ..... hope everyone has a great week.
