Jethro Update

I took Jethro to a different vet for a second opinion today .... found out he is blind in his right eye and is continuing to lose weight. After weighing all the factors, think we have decided that euthanization is the best thing to do for him at this point. We will most likely have it done tomorrow.

It was a really hard decision to make, as he has been a part of our family for over 12 years. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers as we go through this difficult time.

  1. *Hugs* I know how hard it is to lose your kitty you love so much- we lost 2 last year. You're a braver person than I am... I can't bear to have an animal put to sleep even if I know it needs it. Give him lots of love while he's here and hold him close in your heart when he's gone. *Big Hugs*

  2. Sandy, I am so sorry to hear about Jethro. That is a very difficult decision to make, but I think it is kind of you to think about his comfort. You tried to keep him healthy and I will bet he had a great life with your family. I have an eleven year old chocolate lab and a three year old cat who are such important members of our family. Our vet said our dog's life expectancy is between 10 and 13 years. That brought the harsh reality to us. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  3. Awww! We had to do this not long ago with one of our cats and one the year before. They were both the same age as yours. It is the most humane thing to do. Thinking back I realized I had even prolonged it and that was being selfish on my part.....it's tough but you are doing the right thing to prevent further suffering. You gave Jethro your best.

  5. Well you don't want Jethro to suffer any longer than he has to. You will miss him 'cause you have a special place for him in your heart. That place will always be there and he will always be special.

  7. Oh, no, Sandy! I'm so very sorry! I understand that sometimes you have to do what you have to do, but it doesn't make it any easier to say goodby to a faithful and dear friend and companion for all those years. I'm dreading the moment when I might be faced with that decidion as Gizzy is approaching his 13th Birthday on November 1st...please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.

    With Love,
    Doris and Gizzy

  8. oh, i am so sorry to hear this news. I do understand however as I have had to do the twice with two my cats. Fat Cat and Houdini. They were back to back cats too. Right after Fat Cat i got Houdini, had him from a kitten, owned him for about two years and had to put him down because his organs were not in the proper place and causing him pain. I will pray for you that Jehovah gives you strength and comfort at this time.
